Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe, commissioned by Napoleon to commemorate his victories, sits in the middle of the Place de l'Etoile which is the world's largest roundabout. From the viewing platform at its top, the 12 avenues, including the famous Champs Elysees, exiting from the roundabout can be seen radiating out to every area of Paris.
There is a small admission charge and you enter the Arc via an underground passage from the Champs sidewalk/metro. It is open from mid morning to late in the evening.
It is a monument of great military significance where France's national Rememberance Day services are held at 11am on 11 November and nightly at 6.30pm the memorial flame is lit.
